There is not much to say about this recipe other than it is delicious, easy to make, healthy (well it can be with some minor substitutions), and delicious. Okay, I know I said delicious twice but it really is that delicious. This is one of #3's favorites that he requests often when he's home. We do our best not to use that stuff in the can when we can do something simpler, tastier, and healthier. I'm not sure where we borrowed the original recipe before making it our own. It's as good as it looks.
Tip: If you use sugar free ketchup you can save yourself a ton of calories! And you won't even taste the difference!
Ingredients:
2 Tbsp Kroger Unsalted butter
2 1/2 lbs 99% fat-free ground turkey breast
1/2 medium red onion, diced
1/2 medium bell pepper, diced
3 Garlic cloves, minced
2 cups Ketchup 2 Tbsp Canned tomato sauce
2 Tbsp Brown sugar
1 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
2 tsp Chili powder
1 tsp Dry mustard
1 tspRed pepper flakes
Tabasco pepper sauce, to taste
Ground black pepper, to taste
Directions:
Melt butter in a large skillet over medium high heat. Brown ground turkey. Add onions, bell pepper, and garlic then cook until vegetables soften. Turn heat down to low, add remaining ingredients and stir to combine. Simmer for about 15 minutes. At this point you must taste and season as needed because it's ready to serve.
You can earn a few bonus points by toasting the hamburger buns and possibly adding a slice of American cheese.
